Ethno-Nationalism the path to the future? or a diversion to the past

Sourced from Animenz Piano Sheets

Currently my country is silently griped by the idea of ethno-nationalism and the tendrils of fear and distrust are showing…

Is this the right path to avoid disaster, what of our democracy, the silent majority is growing..

What is the significance of those who came first, what glory can be found in your kin that democracy cannot provide

The atrocities of humanity whose sins are payed by those now alive

“Weve been on the road to separatism for 180 years”

While quiet on the surface, deeply entrenched are these fears

How to right the wrongs of the past yet ensure a prosperous future

Bosnian and Croatian, Hutu and Tutsi, Gujarat and Punjab all carried out  devastating attempts at realizing the ideal

Their ideals drove their nations to devastation, war and the path to genocide, but could we be different?

Driven not by hate and division but understanding and unity

Democracy is our guiding light, but perhaps democracy is not the final form of governance

Perhaps democracy is but a pillar, one of many upon which government stands

Thou our homeland is young, still wild and free

Our nation has rapidly matured, decade old conventions are no longer you or me

As inlaws become family so two must our peoples recognise we are two different distinct and autonomous family’s bound by love between blood and the promise of new life

Originally a land of one people than two and now we are a place of many,
So abandon your fear, we are not like any others

Regardless of race we are sisters and brothers

But even within family their are conventions of respect

A guarantee to a life of dignity is something we will all surely expect.
